Was it right for him to have sexual relations with his female employees?

The saga surrounding Zwelinzima Vavi’s sex scandal from an ethical point of view… Was it right for him to have sexual relations with his female employees?

This essay will elaborate on whether Zwelinzima Vavi was right to have sexual relations with his female employee. Zwelinzima Vavi is General Secretary of Congress of South Africa Trade unions, and Vice-Chairperson. He holds a respectable position for which he was suspended from it due to the sex scandal with his employee. This is embarrassing for someone who holds such a powerful position within the society

To a larger extent Zwelinzima was in the wrong to even have a sexual relation with his employee. In the sense that he should have been aware that having an affair with one of his workers could have a bad out turn in the near future because for every decision one makes it has its consequences. Vavi was accused of raping a 26 year old colleague who claims Vavi offered her a job at COSATU without proper requirements procedure.

He confessed to sexual involvement with the employee and gave a confession in detail but denies the rape allegations. Although it should be noted that the lady had a part to play in allowing Vavi to go that far in having a sexual relationship. Women need to be emncipated on how they no longer have to give sexual favours for a position in society.

He goes on to accuse the women saying that it was blackmail and he was being set up because his fellow’s political members wanted him out of power. From an ethical point of view if Vavi knew that his fellow members wanted him off his position as he says he should have known that he could have been attacked in many ways and should have been prepared, having an affair just proved that Vavi does not value his beliefs and moral.

Zwelinzima’s should have had a relationship that is laden with moral responsibilities. From an ethical point of view, an employee does not think of employees only as a means to an end. The employee-employer relationship operates in the context of business; there is a tendency to play by different rules dictated by who has the leverage, and principles of expediency which you could get away with rather than moral principles.

The Congress of South African Trade Union (COSATU).General secretary Zwelinzima Vavi, says the 26 year old woman, who accused him of rape withdrew the charge 2hours into the labour federations internal grievance process. Vavi made this public via twitter. The SABC understand, from sources that the woman, Vavi’s colleague, was unable to answer many of the question related. Vavi insists that he had not raped the 26 year old woman, but had an extra marital affair with the woman. (www.sabc.co.za).

Vavi should have not have done it for it brought him to shame for his actions even though he is not the only one to blame. From an ethical point of view both Vavi and the lady lost touch of their roots and values for they both destroyed their relationships whether the affair was to go public or not.

NEW MEDIA

The impact of digital divide has on the democracy and South African government.

This assignment will define the terms Digital Divide, E-Democracy, and E-Government. It will also look at the impact of the digital divide on the democracy and government of South Africa.

Digital divide describes the act that the world can be divided into people who do and people who don’t have access to and capability to use modern divide exists between those in cities and those in rural areas. The digital divide also exists between economic classes and globally between the more and less industrially developed nations.

E-Democracy is a term that exists with a wide range of reactions. It is the use of information and communications technologies and strategies by ‘‘democratic sectors" within the political process of local communities’ states/regions nations and the global stage. The democratic sectors include the following democratic sectors:
Governments
Elected officials
Media (and major online political)
Political parties and interest groups
E-Government is a term which has recently been significant in our country emerged as a must of being a modern society and to increase efficiency in that manner it means the realization of mutual duties and responsibilities between people who govern and those who are governed in the "digital space". However it seems that the concept of e-government that we defined in a general manner is discussed in various places where different aspects of it are emphasized.

The impact of digital divide on democracy and the government of South Africa.

South African government has taken steps to address the digital divide. In order for these efforts to improve, the paper recommends that Government need to provide more training to the ordinary citizens on how to use these ICTS facilities to access e-governance service. They also need to address the issue of human capital by ensuring that competent staffs are appointed to develop and maintain e-governance service. They must engage with the industry in order to improve telecoms infrastructure. They also need to assist its citizens with access to affordable interest services so that these people should be able to use more of e-governance services. And they also need to allocate more funding on e-governance projects.

The E-Government and digital divide are essentially interrelated. With the increasing populations and the consequent need for the government services by the public, information technology (IT) is an essential tool used to distribute and present services to people with ease, thereby boosting productivity and efficiency. However, the information technology in the government won’t have any significance if those who are intended to benefit from it have limited access to the service or are not able to utilize the service. The first consideration for implementation of E-Government is making al public offices computerized so as to enable them build a capacity for efficient service delivery and yield better governance catalyzed by technology. The second aspect to consider is the availability of citizen centric services by using the digital media. This may include establishing interactive government portals.
Some think the use of internet would lead to a healthier democracy in one way or the other. Among the most ambitious visions are those of increased public participation in elections and decisions making processes. (http://m.articlebase.com).

The chairperson of National Council of Provinces of South Africa, Mninwa Mahlangu indicated that parliaments as part of their law-making functions must ensure that they work for t6he interest of the people they represent. That, according to him, can be best done through the efficient utilization of ICT services. He lamented that in Africa a lot of peoples are not using ICT because of various infrastructural difficulties that need to be addressed and looked into. (http://m.bizcommunity.com)

According to president of the pan-African Parliament, Dr. Moussa Idriss Ndele, Technological advances have led to changes in the political, economic, and cultural sphere in both the advanced and developing worlds. Democratic divide concerns the potential impact of the world digital world on the distribution of power and influence in political systems. Mainly, the issue of those who use the internet for political resources and civic engagement compare to those who do not use. The main idea is that the internet politics will disproportionately benefit the elite.

Technology is more theoretical than practical in most government initiatives. This renders availability, barrier among the socio economically under privileged generating a digital equality. A government ICT center is more likely to have limited computers raising the competition of which the less advantaged loses.
To conclude this assignment defined the terms Digital divide, E-governance and E-democracy and the impact of digital divide has on the democracy and South African government

The reason companies should hold their employees responsible for individual activity/activities on social media?

This essay will thoroughly discuss in deep depth whether or not companies should hold their employees responsible for individual activity or activities on social media. One way companies expand and grow globally is if one is to browse through the site the employees would have put it can make them feel connected to a large community. Exposure has always been important to business and social networking helps the businesses get that exposure due to the millions of people who visit or browse through social networking sites. Social networking websites allow companies to find and share information about different marketing strategies and technique that suits each market segment globally. Information is easily found through internet social networking website can be one of the fastest ways to obtain information, because contact with employees can be difficult for management. Social media provides an opportunity for management to have faster contact with their subordinates. (Swatz, 2008)

If a company has a website of its own and wants to expand its traffic in the sense that it’s improving its websites traffic then social media is a good way to do so. Online networking could help the company improve its insight on their marketing by knowing more about the specific product the company is dealing with rather than having to write reports which could cost a large sum of money. This could also help the company get feedback from the consumer about their product and services. Social media could help the company generate sales lead for the company. It can reach out to a large number of audiences and create long term relationships. Through social media companies can develop loyal fans through the efforts it makes. When people complain about a certain product of the company the company should take note that many people are seeing these complaints, how the company responds to these complaints is crucial because it could directly affect the person complaining and the audience will see this. But if it’s done right, the company will gain a loyal fan base.  (

However social media has its negative approaches. Employees are given access to company equipment mainly computers and internet in order to complete their work effectively. Even though it is a main concern to management and corporate executive officers that employees spend time on these website while at work instead of working. (Wilson, 2009). Computer serves can only process so much information at one time and this could slow down the system having to look at how many people are online within the company. ‘Employers have the right to be hold employees responsible for such conduct if the posting are used to ‘attack the company’ or ‘harass co-workers’. (Breslin, 2009). Mainly what brings about a bad image to the company is that when employees are frustrated or angry towards management they tend to take it out online and it’s not good for the company.
